About Torrence Boone
Torrence Boone is a veteran leader with more than two decades’ worth of experience at every level of the marketing and advertising industries. Today, he is Google’s Vice President—Global Client Partner, and in this role, he leads partnerships with agencies around the world to improve performance and drive transformative changes through the implementation and adoption of Google technologies.
Transformative change has been a theme of Torrence’s life since his childhood in the inner city of Baltimore. He lived humbly with his mother and brother, and thanks to the support of several formative influences and role models, he won a full scholarship to Phillips Academy Andover, a prestigious university preparatory school.
Torrence Boone has never forgotten the life-changing impact of his incredible role models and good fortune, and to this day, he is a dedicated supporter of academic enrichment programs that aim to uplift underserved communities.
“A huge amount of life is hard work and taking advantage of opportunity, but there is also amazing serendipity and luck,” he said.
Upon graduation from Andover--cum laude—in 1987, Torrence Boone matriculated to Stanford University; he graduated in 1991 with a degree in economics, achieving honors. Then, after two years as a manager at Bain & Company, Torrence furthered his education and earned his MBA in 1995 from Harvard Business School.
Torrence first set foot in the marketing world as vice president and general manager of Avenue A (now Razorfish). In 2001, he joined Digitas Boston as Group Director of Marketing and Global Practice Lead before becoming President of the agency’s flagship office. He has also served as CEO of a full-service integrated agency startup built by WPP.
Now, Torrence Boone applies his experience and expertise to strategic partnerships as the Vice President —Global Client Partner at Google. Beyond general management responsibilities, Torrence is responsible for driving Google’s strategy and multi-billion dollar business across a portfolio of the world’s largest global advertisers spanning the tech, health and beauty, and CPG verticals. In fact, during his first six months on the job, Torrence closed three multi-billion dollar global media and technology deals: the largest in Google’s history.
"At Google, we have this notion of 10X thinking or moon-shot thinking,” he said. “You don't focus on the incremental. You focus on the logarithmic or the exponential. If you set ambitious goals, it forces people to step outside of their comfort zone and what they think might be possible."
In addition to his work in the industry, Torrence Boone has served in on the board of numerous organizations, including Finish Line, Effie International, Kepha Partners, and Pond5.
Outside of the office, Torrence is a passionate advocate of educational enrichment and reform programs. He serves as Chairman of the Board of the New York chapter of Citizen Schools, a nonprofit that seeks to expand low-income students’ access to education.
He has been named to Financial Times’ UPstanding Power List, Savoy Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America—twice—and Power 300 Most Influential Black Corporate Directors, and he has won A Better Chance’s Dreambuilder Award and ADCOLOR’s Advocate Award, to name a few.
Torrence Boone enjoys kickboxing, snowboarding, rock climbing, yoga, writing fiction and literature, and the performing arts. He lives in New York, New York.
